Acadia National Park Blackwoods Campground
Blackwoods sits in a thick spruce-fir forest about five miles south of Bar Harbor, with 306 sites that can handle everything from tents to 40-foot RVs. The campground feels crowded and institutional during peak season — sites are close together and you’ll hear generators and kids until quiet hours kick in at 10 PM. Most sites have picnic tables and fire rings, with modern restrooms and showers scattered throughout the loops.
Reservations are mandatory from May through October and book up months ahead for summer weekends. The campground stays open year-round with reduced facilities in winter, when it operates first-come, first-served. From Blackwoods you can access the Ocean Path and Great Head trails without driving, plus it’s a short hop to Bar Harbor for resupply.
