BLM Grand Junction Field Office — Glade Park Road South Dispersed Camp

Glade Park Road climbs west out of Grand Junction and traverses a broad plateau at roughly 6,500 feet before the terrain breaks toward Colorado National Monument and the canyon country beyond. Along the southern reaches of this road, BLM land opens up for dispersed camping in the classic piñon-juniper forest — flat pull-outs, mesa-top silence, and zero development. You’re not inside the Monument here, so you don’t need an NPS pass. This is the staging zone overlanders use before dropping into the canyon system or running Rattlesnake Canyon trails. No water, no toilets, no trash service.

Road surface is paved for most of Glade Park Road, transitioning to good gravel and then rougher two-tracks as you peel off toward camping spots. High-clearance rigs preferred for the side spurs. Spring and fall are prime — summer afternoons bring lightning and the plateau bakes. Winter access is weather-dependent; the road can be passable in a 4WD even in snow, but check conditions. Stay limit 14 days.
