BLM Burr Trail Corridor — Long Canyon Road Dispersed Camp
The Burr Trail Road punches through Long Canyon on its way from Boulder toward the Waterpocket Fold, and the BLM land on either end of the canyon offers legitimate dispersed camping on flats and benches adjacent to the road. You’re surrounded by Navajo sandstone walls streaked red and white, a slot wide enough to drive through but narrow enough to feel completely immersed. It’s one of the most photogenic camp spots on the whole Notom-Bullfrog corridor approach. No facilities, no signage, no fee.
Access from Boulder is paved initially then transitions to good gravel. High-clearance 2WD is fine in dry conditions. The canyon itself can flash flood — do not camp in the wash bottom. Set up on elevated benches. Avoid in monsoon season if storms are building over the Aquarius Plateau. Cell service is nonexistent until you crest out toward Boulder.
Sleep inside a Navajo sandstone slot.
