Devils Garden Outstanding Natural Area
A maze of eroded Entrada sandstone towers, fins, and arches scattered across 1,920 acres of high desert. The formations create a miniature Arches National Park experience without the crowds — twisted red rock pillars rise 20-30 feet from sandy washes lined with Mormon tea and four o’clock flowers. Popular with photographers chasing golden hour light and families exploring slot-like passages between the rocks. No official trails, just pick your way through the formations following social paths.
Located 12 miles north of Escalante via Hole-in-the-Rock Road, a maintained gravel route accessible to any vehicle. Day use only, no camping within the designated area, but BLM dispersed camping is available nearby. Bring water — none available. Best visited early morning or late afternoon when shadows define the rock textures.
