Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest — American River Dispersed Camp
The American River drainage along SR-410 near the Naches Trail western staging area is one of the more popular dispersed zones in the eastern Cascades. Sites are spread along forest roads paralleling the American River — flat, forested, and close enough to the highway that you’re not committing to deep backcountry just to sleep near the rig. It’s a natural recovery and staging camp for rigs that just punched the Naches Trail west-to-east or are prepping to run it. Expect a healthy weekend crowd in August; mid-week it’s quiet. No fee, no facilities, 14-day limit.
Access is off SR-410 via signed forest roads west of Naches. Most sites are reachable by high-clearance 2WD in dry conditions; a few river-adjacent flats require 4WD after wet weather. The American River runs cold and clear — good for cooling down after a dusty run but not a drinking water source without treatment. Cell service is marginal along most of this corridor.
