Campamento Rukayén — Canaima NP Pemón Eco-Camp, Río Tek Valley

Rukayén is the first established overnight stop on the recognised Roraima trekking route after leaving Paraitepui, operated by Pemón guides under the INPARQUES framework. It sits in the Río Tek valley at the foot of the Gran Sabana’s ancient forest edge — a different world from the open savanna above. Expect cleared ground, a basic shelter or two, and pit facilities. It’s not glamping — it’s a real expedition staging point where guides and porters also rest. Groups arrive in the afternoon; the river nearby is clean and cold.

Access is on foot from Paraitepui — this is a trekking camp, not a vehicle camp. Overlanders park their rigs at Paraitepui under community watch and walk in. The trail is approximately 14–16 km one way. Wet season (May–October) makes the approach trail muddy and the river crossings deeper — dry season runs December through April and is the window to do this properly. Coordinate everything through your Pemón guide before leaving the village.
