Campamento Roraima — INPARQUES Registered Base Camp, Paraitepui
This is the real start line. Paraitepui is the Pemón community and official trailhead village for the Mount Roraima ascent, and INPARQUES runs a registered campground here where trekkers and overlanders stage before entering the park. Flat ground, basic pit toilets, and shade from scattered trees. You’ll bunk with a mix of guided groups and independent trekkers. It’s busy during dry season (December–April) and can feel chaotic the night before a summit push — arrive early to sort your mandatory guide arrangement and park permit.
The road in from Santa Elena de Uairén (roughly 65 km southeast) is red-dirt Gran Sabana laterite — passable in a standard high-clearance 4WD in dry season, genuinely gnarly after rain. No fuel at Paraitepui; sort that in Santa Elena. Cell service is effectively zero once you leave the highway corridor.
Roraima circuit mandatory base camp.
