Uniab River Delta — Skeleton Coast Riverbed Dispersed Camp

The Uniab River mouth is one of the few places on the Skeleton Coast where a vehicle can drop into a real riverbed and feel something close to shelter. The delta fans out into the fog belt, with tamarisk scrub offering broken windbreaks and occasional shade. It’s a well-documented overnight stop for guided expeditions running the park concession route — not a secret, but genuinely remote. Desert-adapted elephants move through this drainage seasonally, and brown hyena tracks are common in the soft sand. Capacity is effectively unlimited by terrain, but you’re in a national park concession zone — your permit dictates where you may stop.

Access is mid-route on the Skeleton Coast concession track, roughly between Springbokwasser and Mowe Bay. The riverbed itself can hold deep sand depending on season and recent flood events. Approach with a deflated tire pressure appropriate to your rig weight. No water can be relied upon — surface flow is seasonal and unpredictable. Treat anything you find.
