Loch Maree — Slattadale Forest Car Park and Shore Pull-In

Point of Interest

Loch Maree is one of those places that stops you cold. The loch is enormous, island-studded, and backed by the full bulk of Slioch across the water — one of the finest mountain profiles in the northwest Highlands. Slattadale car park on the A832 is the main pull-in on the south shore, with a Forestry Scotland picnic area, a basic toilet block, and easy access to the lochside path. The old-growth Scots pines on the loch islands are some of the best-preserved Caledonian remnants left in Scotland.

This is not a camping spot — Forestry Scotland manages it as day use only and it’s watched. But as a leg-stretch, lunch stop, or staging point before heading into the Beinn Eighe NNR or pushing on toward Kinlochewe, it’s hard to beat. The A832 here runs right along the shore for several miles — multiple pull-ins exist but Slattadale is the only one with facilities. Water from the loch is not treated; carry your own.

Slioch across the water. Hard to beat.
