Peel — West Coast Fuel and Isle of Man Sunset Staging
Peel sits on the Isle of Man’s Irish Sea coast about 11 miles west of Douglas on the A1. It’s a proper working town — castle, cathedral ruins, harbour, fish market — and the best place on the island to refuel and resupply if you’re running the west or north. The Peel Castle sits on St Patrick’s Isle connected by a causeway, and the view from the harbour wall at dusk is genuinely worth stopping for. There are a handful of petrol stations in town including an Esso on Michael Street.
The IoM road network is all tarmac and well-maintained, but the island rewards slow, deliberate driving — there’s no overlanding in the bush sense here, but the TT Mountain Course, costal roads, and Snaefell approach all funnel through this side of the island. Use Peel as your west coast anchor for fuel and supplies before heading north toward the Point of Ayre or south toward Cregneash.
