Vestmanna — Sea Cliffs Boat Launch and Birdcliff Trailhead

Trailhead

Vestmanna on Streymoy is the jumping-off point for the famous Vestmanna bird cliffs, a stacked series of basalt sea walls rising several hundred metres straight out of the North Atlantic. The town itself has a small working harbour, a petrol station, and a handful of services — useful if you’re looping the western side of Streymoy on a gravel-heavy island circuit. The cliffs above town are accessible on foot via a marked trail that gives overhead views down the same faces the boat tours navigate below. In summer, guillemots, razorbills, and puffins pack the ledges in the thousands.

The town is reached via Route 596 off the main Streymoy coastal road — paved all the way in. If you’re towing or in a longer rig, parking at the harbour is tight but manageable. Boat tours run spring through early autumn; the trailhead above town is walkable year-round but exposed in winter. This is a solid staging point before pushing onto the Norðoyatunnilin tunnel circuit north.

600-metre cliffs, seabirds, and a real harbour.
