Winthrop — North Cascades Visitor Center and Town Staging Area

Town / Resupply

Winthrop sits at the intersection of Highway 20 and the Methow Valley, making it the last real town before the pavement ends on the road to Harts Pass and Slate Peak. The visitor center on Highway 20 carries USFS maps, fire restriction updates, and road condition info for the Okanogan-Wenatchee backcountry — staff here actually know which forest roads are open. Town has a grocery, hardware, and a handful of restaurants worth hitting before a week in the hills.

If you’re running the Harts Pass corridor or pushing into the Pasayten Wilderness, Winthrop is your last reliable stop for cell signal, potable water fill, and a dump station. Stock up here — Mazama has fuel and basics, but Winthrop has depth. Mid-summer through fall is prime; Highway 20 closes at Washington Pass with first heavy snow, usually October or November.

Last real town before Harts Pass backcountry.
