Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest — Flat Camp Dispersed Area on Forest Road 5200
Forest Road 5200 off Highway 153 south of Twisp opens up a stretch of dispersed camping in the pines along the Methow drainage — flat pullouts, room for rigs with trailers, and dark skies that remind you why you left the city. No developed facilities, no fee, just a fire ring here and there and the sound of the creek. It fills up on summer weekends but you can usually find a pull-through mid-week without a fight.
Road is gravel and manageable for most high-clearance rigs dry, but the upper spurs get loose and rutted after rain. Confirm fire restrictions with the Methow Valley Ranger District before you build a fire — this corridor has seen bans run well into fall. Carry your own water; there’s no potable source here.
Pines and pullouts before the Harts Pass climb.
