Icicle Creek — Eightmile Road Water Source and Creek Access
Icicle Creek is one of the better-known glacier-fed drainages in the Cascades, running cold and fast out of the Alpine Lakes Wilderness toward Leavenworth. Along the Icicle Road corridor, there are multiple vehicle-accessible pullouts where the creek comes right to the road’s edge — making it a practical water source for overlanders filtering up before continuing into the backcountry. The water is clean by mountain standards but always treat it — heavy horse traffic higher up and some stock use in summer. Flow is reliable from snowmelt through late October; by November it drops significantly.
The road runs roughly 16 miles from Leavenworth into the wilderness corridor. High-clearance vehicles can access a few pullouts beyond the pavement’s end. No fee for casual water access at roadside pullouts. This is also a useful stop heading out from Teanaway Ridge or Quartz Creek runs when your supply is low and you’re not ready to re-enter town.
