Tombstone Territorial Campground — Dempster Highway
Tombstone Territorial Campground is the anchor stop for anyone running the Dempster north out of Dawson City. It sits at roughly kilometer 72 of the Dempster inside Tombstone Territorial Park, surrounded by jagged quartzite peaks, tundra valleys, and the kind of scenery that makes you pull over every five minutes on the drive in. The campground has 42 sites, pit toilets, a visitor center nearby, and interpretive programs in season. It fills fast on summer weekends — get here early or book ahead.
The Dempster north of Dawson is gravel the whole way and manageable for any high-clearance rig in dry conditions, but rain turns stretches of it into a greasy mess. Tire repair at Dawson City before heading north is smart. Season runs roughly mid-May through September depending on snow. Bear activity in the area is real — hang or canister your food.
Dempster's alpine basecamp at km 72.
