Braeburn Lake — Klondike Highway Wetlands and Swan Staging Viewpoint
Braeburn Lake sits roadside on the Klondike Highway roughly 100km north of Whitehorse, just past the legendary Braeburn Lodge. The shallow lake and surrounding marshland draw huge numbers of trumpeter swans and waterfowl during spring and fall migration — pull a rig off the gravel shoulder and glass the water. It’s a quiet, unremarkable-looking pullout that delivers outsized wildlife viewing. For overlanders running the Carmacks corridor or staging north toward Pelly Crossing and the Dalton Range Road, this is a worthwhile five-minute stop.
The pullout is informal — no signage, no facilities. The Klondike Highway is paved here so any vehicle gets in. Best wildlife windows are May and September. Braeburn Lodge is just a short distance south if you need fuel, food, or one of their legendary cinnamon buns before pushing on.
