Nisutlin Bay Bridge — Teslin Tlingit Viewpoint and Alaska Highway Crossing
The Nisutlin Bay Bridge at Teslin stretches nearly 600 metres across the upper arm of Teslin Lake, and it earns its rep as the longest water crossing on the Alaska Highway. Pull over on the Teslin side and you get a sweeping view of open water backed by boreal hills — it’s genuinely striking, especially in the flat golden light of a Yukon evening. Teslin itself is a Tlingit community with a small museum (the George Johnston Museum) that’s worth the stop if you have an hour. There’s also fuel and basic groceries in town.
This is a key waypoint for rigs running the Carcross-Tagish-Teslin Heritage Loop or heading toward Johnson’s Crossing and the Canol Heritage Trail country. The bridge is on paved highway, no 4WD needed to get here, but it’s your last reliable fuel stop before the stretch toward Watson Lake heading east. Season runs year-round on the highway; winter crossings are straightforward but mind the occasional black ice on the bridge deck.
