Canol Heritage Trail — Johnson’s Crossing Yukon River Bridge Viewpoint
Johnson’s Crossing sits at the junction of the Alaska Highway and the Canol Road, where a classic through-truss bridge spans the Teslin River. For overlanders running the Carcross-Tagish-Teslin Heritage Loop or threading south toward Watson Lake, this is a genuine crossroads. The lodge here has been a landmark since WWII construction days — fuel, food, and a sense that you’re entering serious backcountry. The bridge viewpoint looks north up the Teslin River valley toward big boreal flats and distant ridgelines.
The South Canol Road departs northeast from here toward the Ross River corridor. Road conditions on the Canol vary wildly by season — early summer can mean mud and high creek crossings. Confirm conditions with Yukon 511 before committing. Cell service is essentially nonexistent once you leave the highway junction.
