Huron National Forest Rollways Dispersed Sites
These old timber rollways stretch along the Au Sable River between Grayling and Mio, offering scattered camping spots in pine and oak forest. Most sites have established fire rings and can handle everything from tents to big rigs, though spacing varies. Expect company on summer weekends — this is popular with canoeists and ATV riders. Fire restrictions typically run May through October.
Access via Forest Road 4001 off M-72, then follow the two-tracks to river access points. Road surface is mostly packed sand with some washboard sections after rain. No services, but plenty of dead wood for fires when permitted. Sites fill up during salmon runs in fall.
