Buffalo Gap National Grassland Badlands Overlook Dispersed Area
A series of informal camping spots along the grassland rim overlooking the Badlands National Park backcountry, about 15 miles south of Wall via gravel roads. Sites are essentially pull-offs in the native grass with expansive views east into the layered butte country. Most spots accommodate RVs up to about 30 feet, though leveling can be challenging on the uneven prairie. Wind is constant and shade nonexistent — bring serious tent stakes and sun protection.
Access via Sage Creek Road and various unmarked two-tracks heading toward the rim. Road conditions vary seasonally, with spring thaw and heavy rains creating sticky gumbo. No facilities whatsoever, and the nearest services are back in Wall. Popular with landscape photographers and stargazers, especially during new moon phases when the Milky Way is prominent.
