Buffalo Gap National Grassland Pinnacles Dispersed Area
The Pinnacles area offers several dispersed camping spots scattered across the rolling grassland beneath the iconic rock formations that give this corner of Buffalo Gap its name. Sites are mostly just pull-offs from the dirt roads with room for everything from backpacking tents to big rigs. The landscape is classic Great Plains—endless grass, huge sky, and those distinctive limestone spires rising up like ancient sentinels. Wildlife is abundant, especially pronghorn and prairie dogs, with occasional elk and deer.
Access roads are maintained gravel and dirt suitable for any vehicle in dry conditions, but can turn to gumbo when wet. Spring and fall offer the best weather and fewer bugs. Summer can be brutally hot with persistent wind, while winter brings serious cold and potential for getting snowed in.
