Little Missouri National Grassland Sully Creek Dispersed Area
Sully Creek cuts a green ribbon through classic North Dakota badlands, creating a natural campground in this remote drainage. Sites are informal clearings along the creek bottom with room for several rigs spread out among cottonwoods and willows. The creek provides seasonal water and there are Native American petroglyphs on sandstone outcrops upstream. Absolutely zero amenities but incredible night skies and solitude.
Access requires navigating unmarked ranch roads – GPS essential. From Highway 85 south of Watford City, head west on county roads then follow the creek drainage. Roads can be impassable when wet and there’s no cell service for navigation backup. Spring through fall only, as winter snow blocks access completely.
