Thunder Bay National Forest Jewett Creek Dispersed Area
Several rough pull-offs along Forest Road 4421 provide basic dispersed camping alongside Jewett Creek, a cold-water trout stream that runs year-round. Sites are just cleared spots in the mixed hardwood forest with remnant fire rings and easy creek access. The area sees steady use during fall color season (late September) and opening of trout season, but stays quiet most other times. Figure space for 6-8 rigs spread along the 2-mile stretch of accessible road.
FR 4421 is rough dirt with some rocky sections that demand high clearance. The final mile can be challenging after storms due to washouts and fallen timber. No facilities whatsoever — this is true dispersed camping with pack-in/pack-out ethics required. Road typically becomes impassable with snow by mid-December and stays that way until April mud season ends.
