Superior National Forest Sawbill Trail Dispersed Sites
String of primitive camping areas tucked into dense boreal forest along the Sawbill Trail, offering secluded sites near small lakes and beaver ponds. Most spots accommodate 1-2 vehicles maximum, carved out of thick stands of spruce and balsam fir. Several sites sit directly on unnamed lake shores with canoe access. Heavily used during peak fall colors but nearly empty in late spring. Fires allowed in established rings only — bring your own firewood as dead collection is prohibited.
Trail becomes increasingly rough beyond mile 12, requiring high clearance for the final approach to the best sites. Mosquitoes can be brutal June through August. Snow typically blocks access December through March. Watch for logging trucks on weekdays.
