BLM Wind River Dispersed Area
Sprawling dispersed camping area stretching along the Wind River bottomlands, offering dozens of informal sites scattered across rolling sagebrush hills and cottonwood groves. Sites range from exposed hilltop spots with commanding views to sheltered riverside locations under mature cottonwoods. Most sites can handle big rigs, though some require careful positioning on uneven ground. Popular with hunters in fall, otherwise quiet. Fire restrictions typically in effect July through September.
Access via County Road 287 — well-maintained gravel for the first 3 miles, then rougher two-track to individual sites. Spring runoff can make river access muddy through May. No signage marking the area boundaries, but camping is legal anywhere beyond the private ranch gate at mile 4.
