Sun Valley to Ketchum Ridge Road

Sun Valley's technical high-country challenge

Difficult

This high-country route winds through the mining remnants above Sun Valley, crossing Dollar Creek drainage before climbing to the Ketchum Ridge overlook at 8,400 feet. The trail passes the abandoned Triumph Mine ruins, where rusted equipment still marks the 1880s silver boom, before tackling a steep boulder field that separates weekend warriors from serious wheelers. Views stretch across the entire Sawtooth Range, with the trail dropping into Baker Creek drainage through a series of tight switchbacks.

Moderate to difficult depending on conditions, requiring high-clearance 4WD with low range for the rocky climbs and steep descents. Snow blocks access from October through June, making July through September prime time. No permits needed, but fuel up in Ketchum — the nearest services are 40 miles away. Dispersed camping available along Baker Creek with stellar dark skies for stargazing after a day of technical driving.
