Evans Creek Trail

Cascade creek-running technical challenge

Difficult

Evans Creek Trail starts as a deceptively gentle fire road before turning into a full-contact 4×4 brawl through the Cascade foothills southeast of Mount Rainier. The trail follows Evans Creek through dense old-growth forest, with the most notorious section being the rocky creek bed crossings where you’re literally driving through the water over basketball-sized boulders. The technical crux comes at mile 8 where a near-vertical rock face called “The Wall” separates the weekend warriors from the serious wheelers.

This is a Difficult trail requiring solid 4×4 skills, full skid plates, and aggressive tires. Stock vehicles will struggle badly on the creek crossings and rock climbs. Best tackled May through October when creek levels are manageable, though expect muddy conditions well into summer. No permits required, but fuel up in Enumclaw as there’s nothing for 50 miles once you’re committed. What you get is some of the most technical wheeling in Western Washington, plus pristine camping spots along the creek where the only sounds are rushing water and maybe your cooling engine ticking.
