Toquima Range Crest Trail
Nevada's alpine spine through 11,000-foot territory
The Toquima Range Crest Trail follows an old mining road turned wildlife management track across the spine of central Nevada’s highest range. Starting near Round Mountain, the route climbs through pinyon-juniper country before breaking into alpine territory above treeline. The trail crosses three peaks over 10,000 feet including Mount Jefferson at 11,949 feet, Nevada’s sixth highest peak, offering 360-degree views of the Great Basin’s endless mountain ranges.
Expert difficulty due to extreme remoteness, steep rocky sections, and potential snow even in summer above 10,000 feet. Modified vehicles with rock sliders and winches recommended for the technical sections near Jefferson Summit. June through September only when snow melts. This is proper expedition territory – bring satellite communication, multiple recovery points, and at least three days of supplies. The reward is standing atop Nevada’s roof with nothing but wilderness stretching to every horizon.
