Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest — Peavine Campground

Peavine Campground sits inside Kingston Canyon on the Toiyabe Ranger District, well up the drainage beyond the canyon mouth. It’s got a small number of developed sites with fire rings, vault toilets, and creek access — Kingston Creek runs right through, and the canyon walls hem you in on both sides for a genuine backcountry feel without sleeping in the dirt. It’s close enough to the Toiyabe Crest Trailhead to make it a natural base camp for multi-day pushes into Arc Dome Wilderness. Cottonwoods overhead, willows along the creek — it’s a proper Great Basin canyon camp.

Kingston Canyon Road (NV-376 south, then east off the highway) is rough gravel and narrows as you climb — high-clearance 4WD recommended beyond the canyon mouth. Water from Kingston Creek should be treated. Flash flood risk in summer thunderstorm season — check weather. No cell signal, no services. Fill fuel and water in Austin before leaving pavement.
