Toiyabe Crest National Recreation Trail — Kingston Canyon Trailhead

The Kingston Canyon approach to the Toiyabe Crest National Recreation Trail is one of the most dramatic ways to enter the Toiyabe Range. The trailhead sits at the end of Kingston Canyon Road off NV-376, climbing through a deep limestone canyon to the crest at around 9,600 feet. From here the trail runs north toward Arc Dome and beyond — high, exposed, and entirely off the grid. This is the staging point for serious multi-day trips into the Arc Dome Wilderness and the preferred southern launch for the Toiyabe Crest corridor.

Kingston Canyon Road is passable to high-clearance 2WD in dry conditions but gets loose and rocky in the upper canyon. 4WD is strongly preferred after any rain. No water at the trailhead — the creek in the lower canyon is your last reliable source. No cell service. No crowds. That’s exactly the point.
