Sproul State Forest Cross Fork Road Mile 7 Dispersed Area
About 7 miles up Cross Fork Road from the main highway, this dispersed area occupies a gentle flat beside Cross Fork Creek. Four to five well-established sites sit in a grove of hemlock and white pine, each with natural fire rings and enough space for medium-sized rigs. The creek provides a reliable water source through most of the season and creates a pleasant soundscape. Sites are spaced far enough apart for privacy but close enough to feel secure.
Road conditions vary with weather — fine for 2WD in dry conditions but can get muddy and rutted after heavy rain. The area sees some day use from anglers, but overnight camping remains light except during peak fall foliage. Stream levels drop significantly by late summer, though it rarely goes completely dry.
