Estancia La Leona Historic Ranch
This weathered stone building along Ruta 40 stands as one of Patagonia’s most authentic historical waypoints. The estancia, built in 1916, served as a supply point for early settlers and later as a hideout for Butch Cassidy’s Wild Bunch. Today it operates as a small museum and tea house, with original artifacts and period photos telling the story of outlaw Patagonia.
Located 17 kilometers north of El Calafate, the ranch sits directly on the legendary Ruta 40. The gravel parking area can handle overlanders, and the stone construction provides a striking contrast against the endless Patagonian steppe. Open seasonally from October to April.
