Winding Stair Mountain Vista
This unofficial viewpoint sits on a spur road leading toward an old fire tower site, offering commanding views across the Ouachita ridges. The vista opens up suddenly after a climb through dense oak and pine forest — on clear mornings you can see Talimena Ridge and peaks stretching into Arkansas. A few flat spots allow overnight camping, though there’s no water or facilities.
The access road is rough but manageable for most 4WDs. Fall colors here are exceptional, but expect crowds during peak October weekends. Snow occasionally closes the road in winter. The actual fire tower is gone, but the clearing remains. Keep noise down — this area sees regular hunting activity during season.
