BLM Owens River Gorge Dispersed Sites
A collection of informal camping spots spread along the rim and access roads of this deep volcanic gorge carved by the Owens River. Rock climbers dominate the area, drawn by hundreds of sport routes on the gorge walls, but the sites work well for any Eastern Sierra basecamp. Most spots are level dirt with fire rings built by previous visitors. No facilities, but the setting is spectacular with views across Owens Valley to the White Mountains.
Access via Gorge Road off Highway 395, about 6 miles north of Bishop. The road is gravel but suitable for any vehicle to the main parking area, though some sites require short 4WD spurs. Can get crowded on climbing season weekends. Vault toilet at the main trailhead parking area.
