Allegheny National Forest Tracy Ridge Campground
Tracy Ridge sits 1,800 feet above the Allegheny Reservoir on a narrow ridgetop accessed by Forest Road 262. The 19 sites are carved into dense hardwood forest with vault toilets and hand-pump water—no hookups, no dump station, no cell service. This is primitive camping at its finest, with sites spread along the ridge offering glimpses of the reservoir through the trees. Sites 12-16 provide the best views and are slightly more isolated from the main camping loop.
The final 3 miles to the campground are rough gravel with some steep pitches and tight turns—not recommended for large RVs but fine for most overlanding rigs. The campground operates first-come, first-served with an iron ranger system. Water is turned off after Columbus Day, and the access road isn’t maintained in winter. Bring bug spray—black flies can be vicious in late spring.
