Paiute Trail
Utah's epic 238-mile ATV trail system
The Paiute Trail strings together 238 miles of singletrack and double-track through some of Utah’s most diverse terrain, from pinyon-juniper desert near Richfield to aspen groves above 10,000 feet on the Fishlake Plateau. Named for the Paiute people who traveled these routes for centuries, the marked trail system connects nine towns through the Fishlake, Dixie, and Manti-La Sal National Forests. Key sections include the technical rock gardens near Fremont Indian State Park and the high alpine crossing of Skyline Drive.
Moderate to Difficult depending on section, designed for ATVs but manageable by stock high-clearance 4x4s on most segments. The full loop takes 3-5 days with fuel stops in small towns along the route. Best May through October, though high elevations hold snow into June. Trail passes are required and available at sporting goods stores in gateway towns. Dispersed camping abundant, but water sources are scarce in desert sections. You’re riding Utah’s official ATV trail through landscape that shifts from red desert to alpine meadows.
