Valle de Cocora Wax Palm Forest Trailhead
The main access point for exploring Valle de Cocora, home to Colombia’s towering wax palms and one of the country’s most photographed landscapes. Multiple trail options range from easy valley floor walks among the palms to challenging cloud forest loops that connect to Acaime hummingbird sanctuary. Well-marked trails, but weather changes fast in this cloud forest environment – come prepared for mud and rain even on sunny mornings.
Located 11 kilometers up a winding mountain road from Salento. Parking area fills early on weekends and holidays. Entrance fee required, paid at the trailhead. Best hiking in dry season (December-March, July-August), but trails remain open year-round with proper gear.
