Laguna de Chapala Dispersed Camping West Shore
This dispersed camping area sits on the quieter western shore of Laguna de Chapala, away from the developed towns on the north side. A dozen or so flat spots spread along a half-mile of rocky shoreline offer lake views and decent wind protection from mesquite and salt cedar. No facilities, but the lake provides water for washing and the sunsets over the water are spectacular.
Access requires 3 miles of rough dirt road through farm fields – passable in dry conditions but turns to sticky clay after rain. Local fishing boats launch here occasionally, but it’s mostly empty except on weekends when families from Guadalajara sometimes camp overnight.
