Moderate difficulty requires high-clearance 4WD for creek crossings and muddy sections after rain. The timber roads can be rough with deep ruts during logging operations, and several water crossings become impassable during spring floods. Best tackled April through October when roads dry out, though fall offers the best foliage. No permits required, but check with Wake County Forest Service for active logging schedules.
