Fruita Campground Capitol Reef National Park
Fruita sits in the shade of massive cottonwoods where Mormon pioneers built their settlement in the 1880s. The 71-site campground spreads across the valley floor beneath towering Wingate sandstone cliffs, with sites ranging from exposed loops to shaded spots near the seasonal Fremont River. Most sites handle big rigs, though the cottonwood canopy keeps things tight in places. Spring and fall see heavy traffic; summer brings scorching heat and afternoon thunderstorms.
The campground anchors Capitol Reef’s scenic drive, putting you walking distance from the Fruita schoolhouse, Ripple Rock Nature Center, and historic orchards where you can pick fruit in season. Reservations essential April through October. The Fremont River runs intermittently — when it’s flowing, kids love wading, but don’t count on it for water supply.
