Joshua Tree National Park Hidden Valley Campground
Hidden Valley’s 44 sites sprawl across typical Mojave terrain dotted with Joshua trees and granite boulder formations. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring, but no hookups or showers — this is desert camping at its purest. The nearby Hidden Valley Nature Trail and Barker Dam loop make for easy evening walks, while serious climbers hit the bouldering areas within walking distance.
First-come first-served from October through May, when desert temperatures are bearable. Summer camping here is brutal — daytime temps regularly hit 110°F. Sites fill by noon during wildflower season (March-April) and peak climbing months. Water is available at the campground, but bring extra for the dry heat.
