Camel’s Hump State Park Camping Area
Ten primitive campsites scattered through mature hardwoods at the foot of Camel’s Hump, Vermont’s third-highest peak and one of only two undeveloped 4,000-footers in the state. Sites are walk-in only, about 100 yards from the parking area, with fire rings, picnic tables, and pit toilets. No water on-site — bring your own or filter from the stream crossing on the Monroe Trail. Gets busy on summer weekends with Long Trail hikers.
Access via Forest Road 64 (Camel’s Hump Road), a rough gravel climb that’s passable for most vehicles but can be washboarded after heavy use. Open late May through October, depending on snowpack. The Monroe Trail to Camel’s Hump summit starts right from the camping area — a 3.1-mile climb with stellar Green Mountain views.
