Simpsons Gap
Point of Interest
A narrow cleft carved through ancient red quartzite, creating one of the most photographed spots in central Australia. The gap forms a natural corridor where Ghost Gums cling to rocky walls and permanent water pools attract wildlife. Short walking tracks lead from the car park to lookouts and the gap itself.
Located 22 kilometers west of Alice Springs via Larapinta Drive, it’s fully sealed and suitable for any vehicle. Early morning offers the best light and wildlife viewing — rock wallabies are often seen in the cooler hours. Part of the West MacDonnell National Park with pit toilets and interpretive signage at the car park.
Iconic Red Centre gorge with ghost gums.
