House on the Rock

The original house perches impossibly on a narrow rock chimney, while additions cascade down the hillside in a maze of low-ceilinged rooms packed with carousels, automated orchestras, dollhouses, and the world’s largest indoor carousel. The Infinity Room cantilevers 218 feet into space with a glass floor.

Open year-round with self-guided tours taking 4-6 hours to see everything. Admission ain’t cheap but it’s a one-of-a-kind American original. The nearby Wisconsin River valley offers good dispersed camping options to recover from the sensory overload.
