Lutsen Mountains Trailhead
The Lutsen Mountains trailhead sits at the base of Minnesota’s highest peaks, providing access to the Sawtooth ridgeline and connecting trail systems. The parking area handles about 15-20 vehicles including larger rigs, though it fills fast during peak hiking season. Multiple trail options fan out from here, including connections to Forest Road 172 and other backcountry routes.
The access road is paved but steep in sections. This area gets heavy snow and trails may be inaccessible from December through March. Popular with both hikers and overlanders using it as a jumping-off point for Superior National Forest exploration.
