This 3,000-acre reservoir sits in classic Sandhills country with scattered cottonwoods and rolling grass-covered dunes. The main campground has 99 sites ranging from primitive to full hookups, plus boat ramps, swimming beach, and decent fishing for walleye and northern pike. Gets busy summer weekends but plenty of space otherwise. Fire rings throughout, vault toilets, and potable water at multiple locations.
Located 25 miles southwest of Valentine on Highway 97, the campground provides good access to both Valentine National Wildlife Refuge and the Niobrara River country. Roads are paved within the recreation area. Reservoir levels fluctuate but boat ramps remain usable most seasons.
