Brooks Lake Campground

High-elevation alpine lake campground in the Shoshone National Forest, perfect basecamp for exploring the Absaroka Range backcountry.

Thirteen sites scattered along the shores of Brooks Lake at 9,200 feet elevation, surrounded by towering peaks of the Absaroka Range. Sites are basic USFS standard with fire rings and picnic tables, vault toilets available. The lake offers decent fishing for brook trout, and the setting is spectacular — jagged peaks reflecting in the still water. Gets cold even in summer nights due to elevation.

Access is via 5 miles of good gravel road from US-26/287 near Togwotee Pass. Road is typically passable by any vehicle but can be rough after storms. Popular with hunters in fall and anglers in summer, but never overcrowded. No drinking water available — bring your own or filter from the lake. Campground usually accessible June through September depending on snow.
