Flaming Gorge Dam Visitor Center

Massive concrete arch dam spanning the Green River with visitor center, overlooks, and facilities for overlanders crossing southern Wyoming.

This impressive 502-foot concrete arch dam holds back the Green River, creating Flaming Gorge Reservoir. The visitor center sits right on top of the dam structure, offering exhibits about the dam’s construction and the surrounding area. Clean restrooms, water, and a small gift shop make this a solid resupply stop. The dam itself is worth the visit — massive concrete structure with great views up and down the river canyon.

Access is straightforward via US-191, though the visitor center closes in winter months. The area can get busy with tourists during summer weekends, but it’s rarely crowded during weekdays. Dam tours are available seasonally. Good cell service and a reliable water source for overlanders heading into the backcountry.
