This operational fire lookout sits at 8,048 feet on Mount Harkness, offering sweeping views of Lassen Peak, the Warner Mountains, and on clear days, Mount Shasta. The 1931 wooden tower is still staffed during fire season and provides interpretive displays about fire detection. The trail begins from Juniper Lake and passes through distinctive volcanic landscape including cinder cones and pumice fields.
Access via Juniper Lake Road, which is unpaved and can be rough but passable to most vehicles in summer. Snow closes the road typically October through June. The lookout is most active and staffed July through early September.
