Rose Valley Falls Trail

Easy waterfall access above Ojai

Easy

Rose Valley Falls Road winds 3.5 miles through oak-studded hills in the Los Padres National Forest above Ojai, leading to a seasonal waterfall that cascades 300 feet down sandstone cliffs. The gravel road is well-maintained but narrow, with a few rocky sections that keep most passenger cars away. During spring snowmelt and after winter rains, the falls thunder with impressive volume, creating pools perfect for cooling off after the dusty drive up from the valley floor.

This is beginner-friendly territory suitable for any high-clearance vehicle, though 4WD helps in wet conditions. The road is typically accessible year-round except during heavy rains when creek crossings become problematic. Camping is available at nearby Wheeler Gorge, but dispersed camping along the route requires careful attention to fire restrictions. It’s an ideal shakedown run for new overlanders or families wanting to introduce kids to backcountry travel without serious risk or technical challenges.
